Christmastime is a wonderful time of year to visit Europe; especially Germany, the home of the Christmas Market. This took our winter travels to Frankfurt am Main, the largest city in the state of Hesse.
Situated on the banks of the river Main, Frankfurt has become the economic hub of Germany in the past few decades. Major companies have headquarters in the city as well as it being the location of European Central Bank.
Rather than business and banking, we were here for the Bratwurst, Glühwein and festive fun.
The first day however, did not get off to a good start. I never said I could speak German but I thought I would give it a go. I mean, how hard is it to order two sausages? Apparently very.
After our early flight and hotel check in we were hungry so as soon as we found our first sausage seller, I went ahead and ordered in my best German; only to wait 15 minutes for two plates of... freshly cooked chips. Ok they were tasty, but I was really looking forward to the wurst!
The rest of the trip went well and we ate some delicious food whilst touring the vast markets.
Here’s a few Christmassy pictures to get you all into the festive spirit:
